Community Yoga

Are you a newbie interested in learning yoga? Or are you a big yoga lover?

Join us for FREE community yoga classes happening once a month on the B.B. King Museum Lawn!

Class Schedule:

These yoga classes are suitable for all ages and all levels. Community classes provide a good opportunity for beginners to get in touch with yoga, while allowing regular yoga practitioners varied options to grow their practice. Classes are Vinyasa-based and feature a flowing energetic style, including breath-work, meditation and relaxation. Classes will be conducted by certified yoga instructor, Melissa Hughey.

Melissa is owner of Lemon Balm Yoga & Wellness located downtown Indianola. Melissa also works as a Dental Hygiene Educator and Community Yoga Instructor at North Sunflower Medical Center, where she has the opportunity to work with the community and employees throughout the health system to design specific practices to counteract work-related musculoskeletal disorders and teach tools to improve individuals overall well-being. As well, she plans and instructs sessions that include themed affirmations and visualizations with gentle yoga stretching for Behavior Health Services patients and Long Term Facility residents at NSMC.

Participants shall:
– Bring a mat or towel if possible. A few extra will be available.
– Come dressed in decent and comfortable exercise clothing.
– Bring water to drink.
– Arrive a few minutes early before class time to sign waiver and set up mat.

Be Smart! Control Your Diabetes

Every 4th Thursday of the Month
12PM – 1PM


“Be Smart! Control Your Diabetes” is a healthcare initiative that is open to the public and tailored to persons ages 50 and older.  The program constitutes a total of twelve seminars with one being presented on the fourth Thursday of each month.  The presenters are sponsored by. Mississippi Association of Diabetes, Mississippi State Extension Service, and Sunflower County Diabetes Support Group. The participants receive educational information on the importance and benefits of healthy living, warning signs of diseases and preventive measures to combat diseases.  The goal of the program is to educate the public on how to live a higher quality life with minimal health risks. The seminars cover topics such as diabetes and kidney, cholesterol screening, Diabetics prevention, foot care, eye care, blood pressure screening, know your number and medication-orals, injectable, insulin. Its practitioners enjoy physical and mental discipline, as well as excellent fitness and the ability to defend themselves if necessary. Guitar & Piano Lessons


Monday-Thursday  / 4:00 p.m. / Ages 8-17

Grasp the essentials needed to begin playing acoustic guitar. You’ll learn an easy approach to get you playing quickly, through a combination of exploring the 

instrument, performance techniques, and basic music theory. The course begins by learning the parts of the guitar, the names of the strings, tuning, and technique, whether finger-style or pick. The class also explores the basics of music theory with topics like scales, triads, power chords, fingering and shapes. Students will learn to develop the correct playing technique and apply theory concepts to their practice. They will have the foundational knowledge necessary to pursue most intermediate guitar courses.

Monday-Wednesday / 4:00 p.m. / Ages 8-17 

Piano classes are designed to teach the fundamentals needed to perform on the piano. It will increase musical understanding beyond just reading notes by teaching students a vocabulary of chords and keys, accompaniment patterns, and improvisational techniques. Students will play melodies in several positions and have the opportunity to participate in an ensemble. Students will develop good practice habits and learn techniques to increase the muscular agility and flexibility of their hands. At the completion of this course, the student will be able to play some of the standards of piano repertoire while gaining a thorough understanding of the history and basic concepts of music.
