Bridge-Building Ambassadors
The B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center’s new teen leadership program, BB’s Bridge Building Ambassadors, is designed to engage Indianola and Sunflower County middle school and high school students in discovering their own leadership abilities by exploring history and participating in a variety of learning and leadership development opportunities.
The program, which began almost two years ago, is modeled on and associated with a similar program, Bringing the Lessons Home, begun in 1994 at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC. Focusing on teen docent training, leadership development and connecting the museum with the immediate community, this program has been replicated in museums and other nonprofit organizations around the country, including the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute.
Launched in summer 2011, BB’s Bridge Building Ambassadors will provide Delta area youth the opportunity to become actively involved with the Museum and its exhibits, and to participate in a series of training experiences and internship opportunities that will help them develop into lifelong learners, productive citizens, and community leaders. Ninth through 12th grade students from Indianola are public and private schools are eligible to apply.
